How Do I...
Make An Appointment?
When the surgery is open, please see or telephone our receptionists and arrange an appointment. We try
our best to give enough time for each patient but, if two members of one family try to squeeze into one
appointment, other patients will be kept waiting.
If two or more members of a family need to be seen by the doctor, it will help everyone if each person
has their own appointment. If you are unable to attend your appointment for any reason please let us know in
advance so that we can offer the appointment to another patient. Appointments can be made from 8am. Half of
our doctor appointments are available for pre-booking, up to two weeks in advance, while the other half are
available for booking on the day. Appointments can be made with the GP of your choice subject to
availability.
Being seen in the surgery allows the doctor access to the patient’s notes and computer records. The
doctor also has at his disposal specialist examination equipment. It is therefore virtually always
preferable for patients to be seen at the surgery. There are very few medical indications requiring a
home visit.
Urgent Appointments
If you have a problem that you feel needs attention on the same day, please explain this to the
receptionist and you will be given an appointment. It may NOT be possible, however, for you to see your own
doctor. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings we also offer a triage service with an experienced nurse who will
assess and either treat or refer to the GP as necessary.
How Do I...
Obtain A Telephone Consultation?
During normal surgery hours the practice offers telephone consultations with the doctors. These are available
as pre-bookable or book on the day, and are scheduled to last 5 minutes. These are formal consultations and are
offered as an alternative to face-to-face consultations. Telephone consultations are suitable for discussion of
results, change of therapy and pre assessment of some conditions which may require investigation before a
face-to-face consultation. The doctor will endeavour to ring the patient within 30 minutes after the time booked
for the consultation.
How Do I...
Obtain A Home Visit?
Housebound patients, frail and very ill patients may require visiting at home. If so, please ring the surgery
before 10.00am if possible. The receptionist will ask you for a few details to allow the doctor to assess the
urgency of the case.
How Do I...
Obtain Test Results?
Please telephone after 2.00pm for the report of any test you may have undergone. The telephone is not so busy then and the reception staff are more able to find the results for you.
